GRWM (Get Ready With Me) is a new (and dare I say sexy!) segment where I'll be interviewing writers retro-style-- cute little questionnaires about what writers are wearing, listening to, snacking on, etc. We want to know what they're into and what gives them the ick. We want writing prompts based on their books. We want to know their favorite song, the worst writing advice they've ever received, and you better believe we want to know their brunch order.
It's time to stop asking writers the same boring questions and start getting REAL.
writes dark bubblegum. Her sapphic pop culture indie mystery novella, GAY LORE, is available online and at Skylight Books in Los Angeles. She is currently co-writing a horror comedy feature with Alison Brie, an animated BARBIE musical series for Mattel, and developing a twisty television project with Adam McKay. Previous film/tv writing credits include the Netflix feature MOXIE (dir. Amy Poehler), Busy Philipps’ late-night show BUSY TONIGHT (EP Tina Fey), and Amy Poehler’s podcast series SAY MORE, THE CHRIS CHATMAN DO-OVER, and WOMEN TALKIN’ ‘BOUT MURDER. Alice was a finalist for the 2023 Relentless Award honoring Philip Seymour Hoffman’s relentless pursuit of truth in theatre for her play HELLO, STACEY. Her dark comedy play THE SECOND BEST SCHOOL SHOOTING had two sold-out LA workshops last year, executive produced by Adam McKay, with partnership from March For Our Lives. Alice came up in the Chicago comedy scene, touring with The Second City by night and teaching in Chicago Public Schools by day. She is a climate activist via Sunrise Movement and a pastry-lover via every bakery on the planet.
We Love A List
What are 5 books that are in your tbr (to-be-read) pile?
I have about twenty poorly-managed Notes app lists of books I “need” to read. I guess most pressing is that book about Burn Out that will allegedly make all my problems go away, but I’ll likely read the upcoming Taylor Swift Eras book first.
Top 3 fave coffee shops/bakeries in Los Angeles
As a pastry-forward gal, I’ve gotta say: Friends and Family, Village Bakery, and Sidecar Donuts.
Email, text, or phone call?
None of the above. My honest-to-god answer is AOL Instant Messenger. There was nothing like it. It was like texting but better because you knew when people were available to chat or not. Plus, you could subtweet your feelings via lyrics in away messages.
A book from high school that you loved
A short story, but “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman!
A book from high school that you hated
I remember despising Brave New World, although I don’t know why. I bet I was just going through a hard time, and I took out my angst on the assigned reading. Let that be a lesson about the subjectivity of art, I guess!
Favorite item of clothing
A pair of black bike shorts my friend Bekah left at my house in 2013. I wear them almost every day in some capacity. The elastic is not long for this world, but they are so comfortable.
Fuck, Marry, Kill: Plot, Setting, Character
Marry Plot because that’s the structure and stability of stories. F*ck character because that’s the passion and mystery. Kill setting because I have a very poor visual imagination.

P.S. Did you hear we have merch?!

Loved the Yellow Wallpaper in school. There is a movie that came out a year or two ago as well as one that came out like a DECADE ago, apparently. I will have to check them out.
My goal is to be famous enough to be interviewed in this series
